COOKIES FOR THE 4TH

I made these cookies for a friend who was moving (she said it was the best drive ever) and as a thank you for friends who had invited us for a visit.  My children each had one before the cookies were delivered and they said, "...Mommy, you should put these on your blog!".  So, here goes- only I changed them a little to get them ready for the 4th of July*!

This is a family-favorite recipe from a favorite, family friend!  My friend, Heather, first made these for us and we made sure to get the recipe before the left!

They are actually called MONSTER COOKIES because of their size.  This recipe makes a BIG batch of BIG cookies- perfect for a crowd!

MONSTER COOKIES

1 CUP BUTTER

3 CUPS PEANUT BUTTER

2 CUPS WHITE SUGAR

1/4 CUP LIGHT KARO SYRUP

4 teaspoons BAKING SODA

1/4 teaspoon SALT

2 teaspoons VANILLA

6 EGGS

CREAM ALL INGREDIENTS AND ADD~

8-10 CUPS OATMEAL

12 OZ. CHOCOLATE CHIPS

12 OZ. M &M s

Scoop 1/4 cup for each cookie and drop on cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

Enjoy!

* I added white chocolate chips (half a bag of white chocolate and half a bag of semi-sweet chips) and used only red and blue M&Ms for the cookies shown.  Happy 4th!

EASY CHOCOLATE BIRD NESTS

My daughter's class was studying birds, and so we made these cute little nests to share with her friends.  I have seen them so many times but had never made them.  I was surprised by how easy they were!  They tie in well with Easter and are so much fun for the kids!

My daughter chose jelly beans to put in the nests, but there are so many choices on the Easter candy aisle!

RECIPE

12 oz. package of chocolate chips

4-6 oz butterscotch chips

12 oz choc mein noodles

1/4 cup Rice Krispies cereal (optional)

Melt chocolate and butterscotch in microwave or in double boiler.

Stir.  Add in noodles and cereal.

Place in well-greased muffin pan.

Place 3 egg-shaped candies on top.

Let set.

Nests pop out easily.  Makes 24.

Enjoy!  ADD THESE CUTE LITTLE BIRDS TO GO WITH THE NESTS...FIND DIRECTIONS HERE

You can also make them with just butterscotch like Kate Petronis shows us below...

This recipe ties in well with this Easter book by Jan Brett...
