With so many adorable holiday sweets and treats being made and served, I wanted to come up with an idea that would still be festive and fun, but also healthy to serve the kids for snack when they come home from school.  This Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Pear is so simple!  See below for details on how to make him!

All you need…

A brown pear (called a Beurre Bosc Pear, I believe) for the Head

Star Fruit for Antlers

Maraschino Cherry for the Nose

Cranberry (cut in half width-wise) for the Eyes- my kids like to see if they can actually eat a whole, fresh (aka bitter) cranberry

Apple or Pear Slice (cut in half) for the Eyebrows or Ears- the jury is still out on what they should be.

My kids love Maraschino Cherries, and so I wanted to find a way to use those for a Rudolph nose without adding it to a cookie or candy.  A pear seemed to be a good shape for a reindeer head, and I love for the kids to try different varieties of a fruit that they like.  Typically, they wouldn’t choose a “brown pear” over a yellow or green one at the grocery store.

I also love to give the children all of the ingredients (after I cut the pieces) and let them put it together.  It kind of ends up being like Mr Potato Head after the first time or two.  It is always a good laugh and they love their healthy snack.  I must admit, my daughter went through a phase when she wouldn’t eat any of the cute food that she made because “…she loved it too much.”!

Whether you make it or whether you let the kids assemble it, you will know that you are sneaking in lots of healthy fruits while they are enjoying their snack and the holiday fun!  Let me know if you try it!

Enjoy!

CAMILLE’S FIESTA ~ MEXICAN THEME BIRTHDAY PARTY IDEAS

Celebrating your birthday with a Mexican Fiesta is a sure way to have a great time!  My daughter and several of her friends had a ball with all of the bright colors and (hopefully) vivid memories of a beautiful party day full of fun!  Planning all of the party ideas and details was loads of fun- although we don’t claim to have everything authentically perfect- this is our take on a party that combines Mexican birthday party ideas with a young girl’s likes and wishes!  For instance, we know hedgehogs don’t hail from Mexico- but when she fell in love with a festive-looking hedgehog at a local shop, we decided the hedgehog would make a perfectly fun party favor!  So read on and enjoy- and hopefully you will find an idea or two that you can use for a Mexican-themed party or even a Cinco de Mayo celebration, too- and inspiration to incorporate ideas that make your party perfectly-suited for the birthday child!
