This fabulous “Baby Dedication” celebration is great for birthday party ideas, by Bethany of Sweet Georgia Sweet, is so special, meaningful, and beautiful! In celebration and dedication of her son, Bethany based the party on many of the things that are her son’s favorites- including the snappy look of navy, bow ties. and monograms…and elephants that reflect his favorite animal.  Bethany’s family has a special story, and she shares it best in her own words below…

Here is Bethany’s description of her son’s lovely day…

When starting to plan my son’s Baby Dedication Celebration, I simply started with a color scheme: Aqua & Navy. I was a bit at a loss for what else to incorporate into his celebration to make it unique & special for him…. so I just decided to ask him. You see, we are a bit of a non-traditional family. My husband and I traveled to Uganda, Africa to adopt and bring home our baby boy. Walker was 5 when we adopted him, & he has since turned 6, learned to speak English fluently, & completed K4, K5, and started 1st Grade. He is our little miracle! Since this was a celebration revolving around him, I wanted to include his preferences & likes as much as possible in the party. We chose to use his favorite animal, the elephant, and incorporate that into our existing color scheme. He was a very active part of the party planning & prepping, & he had a blast party planning alongside Mommy!

 DESSERT & DRINK TABLE
We had our dedication celebration mid-afternoon and served a variety of sweet & savory snacks to our guests. We served Walker’s favorite vanilla cake, cookies, chocolate-covered Oreos, push-up pops, & white chocolate dipped marshmallows. We also opted to serve a few savory items to off-set all that sugar. Nicole of One Crazy Cookie made the cookies, and Maria of Love & Sugar Kisses made our fondant-covered Oreos.

My sister & I made simple push-up pops using store bought sugar cookie dough & icing. It was a fun & easy task, & both the kids & adults loved them!

For drinks, we kept it simple by serving milk and water. We used milk bottles which I tied with matching twine. We also had aqua blue Mason glass jars, which I wrapped in navy ribbons.

 INVITATION
I wanted to create the feel of love and family, and since I was unable to find an invitation for an older child’s “baby” dedication celebration, I chose to create the invite myself. I used a mixture of stripes and polka dots in our navy and aqua color scheme, and being the Southern belle that I am, I simply had to include his monogram. However, the focal point of the invitation was a sweet, little elephant family graphic; Mommy, Daddy, & Baby – all holding each other’s tails & walking together. It was precious! It was us!

 DECOR
I also knew that I wanted to create a somewhat preppy feel to match the attitude of my little 6 year old! He loves getting dressed up and wearing bow ties, so I wanted to play into the style he is already developing. I decided to go with lots of bold, navy and white stripes, and sprinkle in a few polka dots here and there. Jaclyn of Peckled created the most beautiful paper pinwheels which I used to flank the ribbon garland on the dessert table. I created a set of topiaries & ribbon garland to match the preppy, party vibe. The backdrop also featured a custom name banner made with love and glitter by The Purple Pug.

For the drink station, we used monogrammed medallions designed by Kristin of Stampin’ Fanatic. The drink station also featured a custom, hand-glittered elephant family banner from The Purple Pug. I also chose to use an inexpensive thick, white frame to display the party invitation; making it a part of the party decor really helped bring it all together.

Inspired by our glittery banners from The Purple Pug, Walker & I also decided to add just a touch more glitter to the party. Using Modge Podge & glitter, we hand glittered the tips of the wooden party forks & a large initial which we used at the drink station.

I also wanted to tie in a little bit of something meaningful into the decor, so we borrowed an antique blue Mason jar from my mother-in-law to display fresh hydrangeas.

When everything was all decorated for the party, I brought Walker into the room to have a look. He covered his mouth with both little hands and just stood there looking all around before exclaiming, “Mommy, it’s beautiful. I love it!”

Celebrating your birthday with a Mexican Fiesta is a sure way to have a great time!  My daughter and several of her friends had a ball with all of the bright colors and (hopefully) vivid memories of a beautiful party day full of fun!  Planning all of the party ideas and details was loads of fun- although we don’t claim to have everything authentically perfect- this is our take on a party that combines Mexican birthday party ideas with a young girl’s likes and wishes!  For instance, we know hedgehogs don’t hail from Mexico- but when she fell in love with a festive-looking hedgehog at a local shop, we decided the hedgehog would make a perfectly fun party favor!  So read on and enjoy- and hopefully you will find an idea or two that you can use for a Mexican-themed party or even a Cinco de Mayo celebration, too- and inspiration to incorporate ideas that make your party perfectly-suited for the birthday child!
