When I was little, one of my sister’s friends made this candy for us, and it has been a part of the family recipe book ever since! I don’t know the origin of the recipe… we call it “Karen’s Candy” – named after our friend that brought it to us. It is so, so easy and so, so yummy! My children and I just made it, and we added red white and blue sprinkles to make it festive for the Fourth of July. With or without sprinkles, it is always a hit! I always leave some without sprinkles for the adults~
With only 4 necessary ingredients, what’s not to love about this candy?
To make one tray of candy, you will need…
1 sleeve of Saltine Crackers
1 cup of light brown sugar
2 sticks of butter
1 package of chocolate chips
Sprinkles in your choice of colors (optional)
Preheat oven to 385-400 degrees (depending on your oven). While the oven is heating…
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spread crackers in one layer over cookie sheet.
Melt sugar and butter in pan and let boil for 3 minutes. Stir constantly.
Pour sugar and butter mixture evenly over crackers.
Bake for 5 to 8 minutes watching carefully.
Remove from oven. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top and smooth.
Top with sprinkles (optional). Put in freezer to set. We keep our candy in the freezer until ready to serve.
Each time I make this candy I am asked for the recipe, and so I thought it might be a fun one to share with you!
It couldn’t be easier! Just remember to use caution if making with children- I have my kids time me for 3 minutes while the candy boils, and they love to line the cookie sheet with the crackers, pour the chocolate chips on top, and shake the sprinkles on top.
